Friends Recognition of  Entertaining Drama and Special Awards

Friends Recognition of Entertaining Drama and Special Awards

The FRED (Friends Recognition of Entertaining Drama) Awards were begun in 1987 by the Friends of The Pasadena Playhouse to honor their Favorite Actor, Actress and Show of the previous season.  That year, Born Yesterday swept all of the categories.

The nomination ballot is made up of the casts from all of the shows of the preceding season and mailed before the season’s last show opens. This gives our members a chance to see the show early and make a decision.  Our season ends in June, and the FRED Awards are given out at a fall luncheon.

Along with these three awards, we also give an annual Special Friend Award.  This award is a way of saying, “Thank You” to a member of the staff, crew, performer or local businessman who has helped the Friends and The Playhouse in an outstanding way.

The Friends also recognize outstanding work and dedication by awarding a  Creative Drama Award.  This award
is not given every year, and so far, has only been awarded five times.
